Tom Ford - Catwalk Look S/S15

TOM FORD

The Designer:

Originally from Texas, Tom Ford moved to New York to study Art History, later switching to Architecture, but in 1990 Tom moved to Milan to begin his career with fashion house Gucci.

After spending 10 years as the Creative Director of Gucci and YSL Beaute, the Tom Ford brand was created in 2005.

The Collection:

Showcased at 19:00 on the 15th September 2014.

Opening to Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love, Tom Ford rocked London Fashion Week!

This collection was all about stylish, sexy, glam rock. Classic tailoring was twinned with sheer panels, burlesque-style nipple pasties, hold-ups, chokers and marked a return of the bell bottom and their faithful companion, the platform shoe!

The Hair & Makeup:

The Stylists:

Hair Stylist Sam McKnight

Makeup Artist Charlotte Tilbury

The Look:

Stylist Sam McKnight recreated a 70's feel, drawing inspiration from singer Chrissie Hynde and Debbie Harry. The girl's hair had tons of volume and a long sweeping side-fringe. Charlotte Tilbury was all about the eyes, using a classic black winged smokey with glitter to mirror the clothes. The feel was that of expensive, beginning of the evening glam rather than the just woken up the morning after the concert smudgy look. The attention was kept on the eyes, using a paled down base with minimal blush and a nude lip.

The Products:

Make Up:

The products used on the day were exclusively from the Tom Ford Beauty line; the shadows available only as lab samples (!)  but it would be easy enough to recreate this look using a range of other products. I like Mac Face & Body for a nice fresh skin and I love the Ben Nye Glam Palette for smokey eye colours. You can see how I created this look in class here:

Hair:
'26 wigs were cut into heavy, side-swept layers with fringes backstage and drenched them with L'Oréal Professionnel  Tecni Art  Mousse, then 'nastified' the razored layers with a liberal dose of Oribe texturiser.'

Thoughts:

I love this look and it's one that gets recreated time and time again. I often opt for a smokey eye on a night out and it's something that all makeup artists need to perfect in order to achieve quickly on a range of eye shapes. I think the pale lips reflect the era and don't draw away from the clothes which have to be the main focus. I do find myself wondering if the odd metallic lip could also have been thrown in to offset the plainer pieces but that's the body artist in me sneaking out :) Nails were also kept classically manicured and the neutral tones definitely gave the rocky edge that touch of class, exactly in keeping with the collection.

Despite my reservations about bringing back flares, I absolutely love this collection! And, although there is a time and a place for nipple pasties, it's all very wearable and will definitely transcend very easily to the high street.
