Makeup - Eyeliner Techniques

The ancient Egyptians loved an eye line and it has made a huge resurgence in the last 50 years, from the vintage flick (still very popular) to present day glitter liners and everything in between, it's something that has a huge impact on the face and I can't see it going out of fashion any time soon! It can accentuate the eye, change the shape and make lashes appear fuller.

There are many ways that a liner can be applied, below is a chart of a few different looks:

Today in class we discussed some different products that can be used for lining the eye, you have kohl pencils, gel liners and liquid liners. There are so many looks to create with a line but today we are practicing the classic flick. 

Flick Line Step by Step:

To create this look you can use a black cake with a liner brush or a gel or cream liner with an angled brush.

Lift the brow.

Start line in the middle of the lid and work out to the outer edge of the eye.

Going back to the middle, work the line in to the corner of the eye.

Stretch the skin at the outer corner of the eye and add in a flick.

Repeat on other eye.

My Attempt:

To create this look I used Mac's Blacktrack with an angled brush (although we were advised by Branka that the Inglot's version is blacker and therefore better!) 

I have always opted for kohl liners on myself as getting liner as equal as I want it to be has always been a challenge. I love the look of a liquid line but have never quite perfected it. The Blacktrack is a great product and is easier to use than a liquid version and using a short angled brush is much easier than trying to get a nice line with a long thin bendy liner brush. Saying all that, this is one of those things that just needs a lot of practice. I was happy with one side (the right) but not so much with the left - it was passable but not perfect. I'll keep practicing!
