Makeup - Colour Beauty - Club to Catwalk
Vibrant use of colour is being used more and more and it's quite common to see this look used in editorial.
To create these looks:
1st Look - Colour Beauty:
*This is for photoshoots only – not long wearing
- Pat in Clown White greasepaint
- Using ring finger pat in up until crease
- Work chosen shadow colour into hand
- Apply over the top of the greasepaint of to make the colour really pop
- Using a fluffy brush, work over to ensure non-patchiness and soften edges
- Using a clean fluffy brush, select a lighter shadow and
- Apply under brow
- Using a mid shade, buff over crease
- Get rid of any drop out under and around the eye
- Using a small brush, apply white greasepaint on waterline
- Do the same slightly underneath extending out and under
- Using a small brush, starting in the centre, press in chosen contrasting colour
- Mix up a concealer to match skin from the Maquillage palettes
- Cover any redness and blemishes
- Apply foundation base
- Set very lightly with translucent powder under the eyes then on face
- Using a fan brush warm the skin with bronzer over the forehead and cheekbones
- Tap on a darker shade for contours
- Fill in brow using pencils and powder in desired colour
- Go over with brow gel
- Using a mini fan brush, apply mascara
- Apply a bright lip colour
- Use Vaseline as a highlighter for a fresh dewy skin
*To make more artistic mix up the under colour with Duraline
and add in under the brow
My Attempt:
2nd Look - Club to Catwalk:
- Use
a full coverage base such as Mac Full Coverage
- Brush
onto prepped skin with a foundation brush
- Buff
in with Mac’s 130 duo fibre brush
- Mix
a darker shade of mac full coverage to add in contours
- Blend
in
- Use
Kryolan Clown White greasepaint to add in highlights
- Chose
a shade of Derma Colour to match brows
- Buff
in white greasepaint onto eyelids
- Use
a clean eyeshadow brush to blend away the edges
- Choose
two contrasting bright shadows and apply to either half of the lid
- Blend
together on lid, using one side of the brush for each colour
- Load
a blending brush with beige shadow and blend out the edges
- Use
a third colour i.e Ben Nye Taupe to blend out further
- Use
a darker tone in corner and wing
- Apply
Clown White to waterline and just below
- Work
in a coloured shadow on top and below
- Use
Clown White to highlight under brow
- Apply
mascara using a mini-fan brush
- Using
Clown White as a base, mark out blush placement
- Soften
edge using a clean brush
- Press
on bright blusher colour on top half and blend down
- Choose
next shade, fill in and blend out
- Using
a black aqua colour, draw in cat-eye liner and lower line
- Use a full coverage base such as Mac Full Coverage
- Brush onto prepped skin with a foundation brush
- Buff in with Mac’s 130 duo fibre brush
- Mix a darker shade of mac full coverage to add in contours
- Blend in
- Use Kryolan Clown White greasepaint to add in highlights

My Attempt:
I was fairly happy in my application for the first look although in the photos the colours are not as strong as I would have liked. I might try this look again with cream colours for the eye, the Make Up Forever Flash palette would make a good alternative. I will definitely need to play with colours and blending contrasting colours more. Not too bad for a first attempt but far from happy!
Again with the second look I felt as though the colours on the lid didn't blend as easily as I had thought. The cheek colour could be stronger with more colour built in. I was happy with the line but couldn't resist adding further decoration since we were working with aqua colour!

SS15 TRENDS
The Trends:
Beauty trends this season saw clean skin and plaited/wet-look hair hit the runways again and again. Throw in some neon/metallic eyes and a bright warm lip and you pretty much have it. This season gives the rest of us something to try out no matter where we might be going and at what time of day!
The Hair:
Thoughts:
I love this seasons messy plaits, this look is an easy one to pull off and depending on placement will suit any occasion. This bohemian look will take us nicely through festival season! A touch of neon or a bright lip on a nice clean base is another easy addition. This season isn't about trying too hard - it's fresh and fun by day and can be taken into either direction for evening - sophisticated dinner date or sexy club look.
If I had to pick one product for this season it would be OCC's Lip Tar - an immense range of colours with intense pigments and totally vegan!

Fashion Magazines - Love
LOVE
Background Information:
LOVE is a bi-annual British style magazine founded by stylist and fashion journalist Katie Grand in 2009.
The first cover in 2009 featured American singer-songwriter Beth Ditto, naked. Later covers have featured Kate Moss, Justin Beiber and Minnie Mouse!
Despite its glossy pages, the magazine has a raw look. Black-and-white photography dominates, and most of the color photography has a muted palette, as if the pictures have aged and faded. Some images are clearly fashion photography; others are more like inventive snapshots. Nudity is plentiful in many styles, from the almost pornographic to the breathtakingly artistic.

Katy Grand is the editor of LOVE which she launched herself. She styles many fashion shoots and shows including Giles and Unique at Topshop. She has also worked on fashion shows for Louis Vuitton and Prada.

The Articles:
The next issue has been heavily promoted even though it isn’t on newsstands until September of 2015! Kim hinted that we can expect a candid interview when she posted the cover to her Instagram on Jan. 26 with the caption, “This was probably my most fun interview for @TheLoveMagazine! Thank you @caradelevingne! I really hope our jokes come out normal when seen on paper lol.”
Overall Fashion Influence:
Love doesn't follow fashion - it sets fashion's agenda. Love magazine is an inspiration - for designers, for artists, for anyone looking for visual ideas, for anyone who loves fashion and design.

Fashion Magazines - Elle
Background Information:
Elle is the world's best-selling fashion magazine. Elle is of French origin and also focuses on beauty, health, and entertainment. It was founded by Pierre Lazareff and his wife in 1945. The title, in French, means 'she' or 'her'.
In 1944, only weeks after Paris was liberated, the Lazareffs returned to France and resumed their lives, both socially and professionally. Pierre reassumed the top post at Paris Soir, turning it into one of the most widely circulated daily papers in Europe, and Hélène, having realized fashion journalism was her true calling, took what she'd learned abroad and decided to start her own fashion magazine.
On October 1, 1945, "on paper so coarse and yellow that it reminded her of French bread," Hélène Gordon Lazareff did just that, introducing to the world the first issue of ELLE.
The Audience:
Elle reaches over 69 million readers. The vast majority (82 percent) of Elle's audience are women
between the ages of 18 and 49. Elle readers have a median age of 34.7
years. Forty percent of readers are single, and the median house income is $69,973. "Our readers are young enough to think about life as an adventure
and old enough to have the means to live it", said Robbie Myers, editor in
chief.
The Articles:
Overall Fashion Influence:
Today, it is the world's largest fashion magazine, with 43 international editions in over 60 countries. The first international edition of Elle was launched in Japan in 1969. Then its US and UK editions were launched in 1985. Elle is owned by the Lagenardère Group of France. It is published in the US and the UK by Hearst Magazines. This makes Elle the most influential fashion magazine worldwide!

Fashion Magazines - Dazed and Confused
Dazed and Confused
Background Information:
Dazed and Confused is a British magazine launched in 1991 by Jefferson Hack and Rankin at a time that Britart and Britpop were emerging. It was the height of ecstasy culture and the recession meant they were all about creating their own future with this magazine.
"This is not a magazine," reads the first issue. "This is not a conspiracy to force opinion into the subconscious of stylish young people. A synthetic leisure culture is developing – plastic people force fed on canned entertainment and designer food. Are you ready to be Dazed & Confused?"
"This is not a magazine," reads the first issue. "This is not a conspiracy to force opinion into the subconscious of stylish young people. A synthetic leisure culture is developing – plastic people force fed on canned entertainment and designer food. Are you ready to be Dazed & Confused?"
Aged 19, Jefferson Hack met Rankin Waddell in the canteen at the London College of Printing. They stayed up all night putting together a colour magazine on a black and white computer. The inspiration for the name came from the Led Zepplin song Dazed and Confused.
The Audience:
The target audience for dazed and confused are the young generation. Ages between the mid teens to the early 30s. The magazine targets people that are interested in fashion and art. Dazed reports an average monthly circulation of 90,529 globally.
The Articles:
Overall Influence:
"Dazed has survived – even thrived – by doing all the things that creative Britain is good at," says broadcaster Ekow Eshun. "Mixing high and low culture, having a non-reverential relationship to celebrity, embracing the absurdity of fast-moving consumer society, being fleet of foot in identifying new trends and coming up with a constant stream of good ideas. Successful magazines don't just reflect the times around them, they also help shape the times. And that's what's Dazed has done."
Today, as the magazine enters its third decade, with its own thriving publishing group complete with digital arm at http://www.dazeddigital.com/

Fashion Magazines - i-D
Background Information:
i-D is a British magazine dedicated to fashion, music, art and youth culture.
The first issue was published in 1980 in the form of a hand-stapled fanzine with text produced on a typewriter. The wink and smile on each front cover is a graphic representation of the magazine's logo and forms i-D's identity. Famous winks have included that of Madonna, Tom Ford, Bjork, Drew Barrymore, Kate Moss and Rihanna - although the wink is now more often replaced by obscuring one eye in some way as seen below.
i-D was founded by designer and former Vogue art director Terry Jones in 1980.
The Audience:
The Articles:
Overall Fashion Influence:
The magazine is known for it's innovative photography and typography. It pioneered the hybrid style of documentary/fashion photography called 'Straight Up'. At first, these were of punks and new wave youth found on English streets and who were asked to stand against the nearest blank wall. The pictures resulted in a 'top to toe' image and have established the posed 'straight up' as a valid style of documentary picture-making.
i-D has come a long way since the pre-digital age and has developed into a glossy mag and website bursting with creative documentation of contemporary culture and innovative fashion styles, and after 30 years it still manages to surprise and inspire.
